Isomaltulose
Description
Isomaltulose is a naturally occuring sugar in small quantities in honey and beet sugar juice. Nutr!Break® Isomaltulose is the brand name for powdered isomaltulose that has been naturally converted from beet sugar.
Isomaltulose is, like beet and cane sugar (sucrose, sucrose), a disaccharide consisting of glucose and fructose, but due to a more rigid binding, isomaltulose is absorbed much more slowly in our body compared to sucrose or other carbohydrates such as maltodextrin. This results in a lower glycemic response (slower and lower rise in blood sugar) and a more controlled release of glucose, and thus energy, to the body.
In addition, scientific research has shown that isomaltulose promotes fat burning.

Use
Isomaltulose is a healthy alternative to other carbohydrates such as sucrose, dextrose, fructose and maltodextrin. It delivers the same amount of energy, namely 4kcal/g, but in a more gradual way avoiding blood sugar peaks and supplying the body with energy for much longer.
Isomaltulose is recommended as a carbohydrate source before and during exercise (recommended dosage: 2 scoops (60g) Nutr!Break® Isomaltulose in 1 liter of water, whether or not supplemented with salts/electrolytes). For example, if you take isomaltulose before exercise, your blood sugar level will be higher after an hour of exercise than that of someone who chooses sucrose. At that moment you have more energy to feed your muscles.
On top, the increased fat burning provides an additional benefit. Athletes who get a lot of energy from fats can live longer on the same amount of carbohydrates compared to athletes who burn less fat.
Isomaltulose is toothfriendly and extremely suitable for a better control of blood sugar levels (important for a.o. diabetes mellitus).
Isomaltulose is easily dissolved, and due to its heat stability, it is also easy to use in cooking and baking as a 1 to 1 replacement for other sugars.
Sports drink tip: Dissolve 1 scoop (30g) of Nutr!Break® Isomaltulose in ½ liter of water, add 2 pinches (0.6g) of salt and ½ squeezed lemon (20g) = refreshing hydrating energy drink!

Health claims
- Consumption of foods/ drinks containing isomaltulose instead of other sugars induces a slower, more controlled release of glucose, and energy, to the body
- Consumption of foods/ drinks containing isomaltulose instead of other sugars induces a lower blood glucose rise after their consumption compared to sugar- containing foods/drink
- Consumption of foods/ drinks containing isomaltulose instead of other sugars contributes to the maintenance of tooth mineralisation (i.e. toothfriendly)
- Carbohydrates including isomaltulose contribute to the maintenance of normal brain function
